Zone – Division of Delivery Pin Codes

Zone in logistics refers to a defined geographical location that comprises of several other detailed localities. A zone is used in logistics to assign packages to a courier company for delivery.

Zone refers to a particular geographical area which consists of several smaller areas in it. Zone is helpful in identifying the larger geographical area when shipping. One particular zone is different from another in many ways and characteristics. For example, different zones may include north, south, east, wheat etc. In eCommerce assigning a zone to a parcel means helping it route in the correct direction. When packages are picked up by courier companies and need to be delivered to a destination, they are first sorted based on their zone.

Once zone wise sorting is done, packages are further broken down into sub areas. Zone is also used by the shipper to check the serviceability of a particular courier partner.
