Podcasts help the business to develop a connection with the listeners. They hear what you speak, which helps build a relationship with them which written words can’t. Besides, offering different ways of consuming content and engaging your audience is not at all a bad thing.

Podcasting is a serious business, and it gathers significant traffic. The number of users listening to a podcast is increasing day by day. Supplementing the regular written content (blog or article) with an audio podcast is a smart idea that can help you get more traffic to your website.

What is a Podcast

Podcasting helps build a reputation among the customers and drive traffic to the online store by asking the listeners to visit the website at the end of the episode. However, many users find setting up a podcast a confusing process, and hence, they are unable to get benefits from the podcasts for their business. To make things easier for them, we will discuss what a podcast is, the different types of podcasts, and how you can set it up for your blog.

What Is a Podcast?

What is a Podcast

A podcast is a form of audio broadcasting of the content on the web. The audience can listen to the podcasts while commuting to the office, jogging, or working. Basically, a podcast is a content medium that doesn’t require your audiences’ attention like a blog or a video.

Podcasting these days is very high in demand, and its listenership is increasing every year.

A podcast is a recorded audio discussion on a topic, like travel or business. Although majorly found on iTunes and Spotify, many websites are also hosting them nowadays. There is no need for a lot of money or technical knowledge to start and run a podcast.

Different Types of Podcasts

What is a Podcast

The following are different types of podcasts:

Interview Podcast

An interview podcast includes a host who interviews a guest in each episode of the podcast. The host first briefly introduces the guest and then asks the guests a few questions. The guest shares his expertise and experience. The host just has to start the conversation, and the guest does most of the talking.

This is a popular format, and so, most of the podcasts struggle to stand out. However, the interview podcasts help gather a new audience, especially the fan base of the guest.

Solo Podcast

It is also a common type of podcast. This type is mostly used by people who have a kind of expertise and wish to share it with others. This podcast doesn’t have much fanfare. This format is simple, and the host simply talks into a microphone.

When starting this podcast, you need to decide how long you want to make each episode. Most podcasters create an episode of 30-45 minutes. You can write a few pointers or a script for each episode.

Conversational Podcast

This is also a common format for the podcast. This format involves two people having a straightforward conversation. In an interview podcast, there is one host and a guest. However, in a conversational podcast, both are hosts.

In this format, both the hosts have a different role to play. They have a different conversation. While one reports the news, the other provides commentary or comedy. While one shares the experience, the other teaches lessons.

Panel Podcast

A panel podcast is like an interview podcast only, but it involves more than one guest. Each episode of the podcast has a group of guests. Each episode can be on different topics with each guest sharing their own experience and expertise. The guest panel does most of the talking, and there’s no pressure on the host.

Non-Fictional Story Telling Podcast

Non-fictional story podcasts talk about the real-life event. You can talk about a series of murders, your trip to Mount Everest, or about a historical event. You can go for one story per episode. This is an excellent format and listeners from around the world like to learn about different experiences. You can share new opportunities, ideas, and concepts with the listeners.

How to Add Podcast to Your Blog?

What is a Podcast

Blog’s Suitability for Podcasting

Before you find out how to establish a podcast for your blog, determine if your channel is technologically or creatively suitable to host a podcast show.

Technological Suitability

People hosting their blog on WordPress can add plugins which will make things simpler for them. Besides, it will also give control over things like content delivery, artwork, feeds, etc.

Creative Suitability

You must have a solid idea for your company podcast before venturing into it. Address your audience’s problems, let your guests share their experience, or look for topics that can be engaging to your audience.

Get the Microphone and Software

You will require a microphone and software to record and edit your podcast. Look for good, reliable, and good quality products that are inexpensive.

Set-up the Backend of the Blog

A podcast is essentially a sound file (MP3) embedded in your blog. The blog then is picked by iTunes. The audience is then notified about the new episodes. So, basically, you need to instal a plugin that sends out notifications automatically.

Create Your Podcast

Just like your blog, your podcast also needs to stand out from the crowd. It is critical to give tough competition and get some traffic. The way you will create your podcast, and the styles and elements you choose will have a noticeable impact.

Publish Your Podcast

Your feed will be submitted on iTunes, Spotify, or other such channels only if you have published your podcast.

Recording

Make notes of your content, write points or even a script. Turn off your phone and sit in a quiet room where there are no distractions. Open the software where you are recording your podcast and check your microphone settings. Ensure everything is up to the mark before you start recording.

Save/Export Your File

Once you finish recording, save/export your file in MP3 format. Also, listen to the exported file to check for errors. If there are any, you can either edit the file or go for a new recording.

Publish the Podcast

The next step is to upload the MP3 file on your blog post. Once you publish it on your website, your audience can listen to your podcast. It will also be picked by iTunes or other such sites if you have installed the plugin to your WordPress.

The Final Say

So, what are you waiting for? Get a brilliant idea and create a podcast today. Begin with listing down the ideas and information. You can also listen to other podcasts to get an idea. If you already have a microphone with you, record an episode today. Don’t forget to introduce yourself and your idea in the beginning. When you dive in more, get comfortable talking to a microphone for a long time, and don’t forget to listen to the episode afterwards. Don’t upload the episode straightaway after recording it. Get some practice and get familiar with the process.
